Lands' End

Last week Iowa Geek turned me onto to something wonderful (look more linky love!!)

MomSelect. MomSelect is a company that wants Mom's input and opinions. And, you don't even have to be a blogger to take part!

I am a crier.

Not as much a sad crier (though I do that as well).

I am a angry crier (it makes important conversations interesting)

And a movie/tv/commercial crier.

The Hallmark commercials...I cry almost every time (the one with the older man learning to read did me in).

That Foldgers commercial...oh yeah I am gone.



But movies and TV shows are the worst. I cried when Meredith fell in the water on Grey's, when Trevor came home on Army Wives and even when Ross and Rachel broke up.

I am a crier.

So today, I am reading Iowa Geek, and she had a crying hangover (those are the worst!). She watched P.S. I Love You, and said it was a crying movie. I want to see it, and have it in queue on Netflix. But I don't think it will be one Hubby will watch with me. He doesn't like things that make me cry...ever.

The worst part...when I cry at award shows. When people win things, I am a mess. The speeches do me in every single time. Hubby and I don't want the ACM's together anymore, ever since I cried when Kenny Chesney first won Entertainer of the Year.

Another bad thing...Boo is now a crier too. She has cried at shows...and I am not proud that she has taken this trait from me. Hopefully she won't be as bad, but you can never tell.

What trips your faucet? Movies...tv...or something different all together. I want to see if I am the only strange one out here.

The new sounds

I have written many times about how music is a huge part of my life. I listen constantly throughout the day. I love finding new music and artist to listen too. I have a hard time where there is not music, which is why my ipod is my best friend...

One of the best things about Boo's recitals, besides watching the joy on her face, is all the music. I have my pen out through the entire show. This year I found a few great new artists based on the songs I heard during recital.

First off is Elisa. She is an Italian based singer whose songs touch the soul. In 2002 she performed a version of the Italian National song when the Olympic flag was passed from the United States to Italy. I sat watching the dancers as "Rock Your Soul" came out the speakers. The song is wonderful. I quickly marked this song off in my program, and added it to my iTunes waiting list.

Next we have Charlotte Martin. She is singer-songwriter who mainly works with the piano. Her music has been featured on "So You Think You Can Dance" and other national tv shows. I loved listening to the instrumental parts of "Veins", and even more so when her strong voice came on. Did I mention she was Miss Teen USA in 1994? Check her out, you won't be disappointed.

The last song from recital, is "Golden" by Fall Out Boy. I am not a big fan of Fall Out Boy, but I Love this song! This song is so moving, I had chills by the end.

Lastly, lets talk about Kate Voegele...oh my. I first heard her on one of my guilty pleasure shows, and was drawn to her voice. She has this throaty sound mixed with such innocence. She landed a tour with Natasha Bedinfield that launches on May 21st. Take a look at some the videos, and you will see how powerful she is. On her album is a powerful rendition of "Hallelujah", which was first recorded by Leonard Cohen. I also love her song "No Good", which she sang on my guilty pleasure to Kevin Federline's guest character.

Take a look at all these artists, there songs show new light to everyday music. Let me know if you have any lesser known artists, I am always on the hunt!

Thin Mints and More

How many of you were Girl Scouts growing up? I bet most of you were, I know I was.

I read this article yesterday, and was blown away. There is a Girl Scout in Michigan that broke the all time sales record this year, 17,328 boxes. How is the world does one do that?? I am sure Mom and Dad helped, but still. I was proud when I sold over 60! All I wanted was a shopping spree at the local store!

But this line from the article is the most important, and what Girl Scouts of the USA strives to do for each and every girl that participates:

The cookie program has helped push Jennifer out of her shell, Pam Sharpe said.
"It's made her really confident," she said. "I remember when she first started selling, she was very shy and quiet, and you had to push her out to talk to customers, but now she's right out there, first to the door."

I was excited to read that the goal for the troop was a group trip to Europe this coming winter, but the fact that Jennifer opened herself, that is life changing and can open so many doors for her.

Congrats to the girls in that Girl Scout Troop!!

Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America

There has been a buzz around the Mall of America. Nickelodeon Universe opened March 15th to rave reviews. There are a ton of new rides, revamped old rides and the classics. Boo got a chance to go with my Big Sis today, and had the best time! I met them for lunch and took some time to take a few pictures.

Let's start with Reptarmobiles. This is the young kid bumper cars. Boo thought this was great. She didn't get to go on it this time around, but can't wait for next time. They also have big kid bumper cars, but I didn't get a picture of those. I was excited to see this one, since in high school I LOVED the Rugrats.

This is the Rock Bottom Plunge. This is a roller coaster, but I am not sure if it is new or not. There is one new one, but I don't think this is it. Boo loved the large SpongeBob hanging from the wall.

Next is the classic Ferris Wheel, or El Circulo del Cielo. They didn't much to change this, but they did add a HUGE Dora and Boots. Boo was amazed at the size of it.

This is Blue's Skiddo. Remember, if Blue Skiddo's, you can too! Boo loved riding on Magenta, even though she had no real clue who it was. She was never a Blue's Clues fan.

This was my favorite to walk by and watch. Hunter is going to FREAK OUT when he sees this one. This is Avatar Airbender. If you can see, the base of the ride is in the skateboard shape. As the skateboard goes from side to side, the part that holds the people SPINS AROUND AND AROUND. Oh my...not going to happen. It goes about 70 feet in the air, and is so cool to watch. You will never ever ever find me on there. That is completely a Hunter ride.

Last but not least, there is the Pinneapple Popper. Those that had been to Camp Snoopy, which used to be in the Mall of America might remember the giant Snoopy that was the bouncer. Now, it is a giant pinneapple. Now, I am not a fan of SpongeBob, but this looks like the kids would have a blast.

I am not going to talk about ticket prices, that would be depressing. It is unbelieveably expensive, but so much fun. If you have an entire day, it is very much worth it.

Thanks to Big Sis for taking Boo there, she had the best time.

I have a ton of things saved that I am going to use at some point, or have used and don't want to give up.

• Want to print out worksheets for young children, coloring pages and more? Go to Kidzone, and have a ball. We used some of their worksheets when T was having a hard time with multiplication, and it was simple, but still worked his brain.
• Need to know how to make a paper hat? This was the simplest way I have found, and easy enough that they kids can do it themselves. I found this because K got a bug up her butt one night and HAD to have a paper hat to wear.
• Last but not least, ever hear of Baby Loves Disco? They are a group that goes around the country (and now the UK) and holds kid friendly parties. They are late afternoon after nap time, but before dinner. They have bubble machines, baskets of trinkets and healthy snacks galore. They hold the parties in trendy clubs, and make it a time to remember!
