The Labor of Love

Being gone this past weekend, I have over 100 posts to read in my Google reader. I will read them all, in shifts. Plus, I have almost 60 e-mails. I am never sleeping again...plain and simple.

Rocks in my Dryer had the idea to post of the most important labor of a mothers life...child labor. She put up a linky so head on over, and read all about the labor of love.

How long was your labor?
34 1/2 hours of hard contractions. 10 minutes of pushing.

15 of those were spent at home on the couch, the shower or the floor. I was sent home once when the contractions dropped from every 4 minutes to every 11. Boo was stubborn even back then.

I sent hubby to work, after the moronic doctor told us it would be a couple days. A couple days my butt. Two hours after Hubby left for work, my neighbor called and asked if I needed a ride to the hospital. Of course, no way to get a hold of hubby. Called my sister in law and she drove me to the hospital for the second time in 12 hours.

Three hours later hubby got there. He found my note on the floor...all the lights on and the interior door wide open. I was a little distracted when I left I guess.

Still very thankful I didn't traumatize my little nephew. I was not the fun happy aunt at that point.

How did you know you were in labor?
Side splitting, scream induced contractions. They had to break my water to get me "really going" (Are they kidding me). I thought my mom was going to freak if they didn't break my water. The doctor that was there at that point...not that smart.

Boo was a week late, so they had "stirred" me. Memo to self...OW. Two days later I was holding her in my arms.

Where did you deliver?
At the hospital thank goodness. There were three in the area that we lived in, and I am so glad that I had her at the one I did.

Drugs?
Yes please. Oh you mean then, oh my yes. I told the Anesthesia doc that I would name my kid after him if he would hurry the heck up. He didn't, so I didn't. I did name my stuffed frog after him though. Now...can't remember what it is. Oh well.

C-section?
Nope. Never a thought of one. Boo was wonderful, just a little slow going.

Who delivered?
The house doctor. You know how they ask you to "Push three times and we will see where you are at?". Yeah...Boo wasn't waiting for no one. They had to page the house doctor, because the regular OB/GYN was 15 minutes away. Boo came 7 minutes later. Three pushes...ha

Head on over to Rocks in my Dryer for stories of the Labor of Love.

The pushing of my daughter was the same. The doc had just enough time to throw scrubs on before he reached down and caught her. Both my kids were 12 hours, but my son (pushing) was a different story all together. i was sure i was dying!

This was fun so I decided to participate.

You were awfully nice to let your husband go to work. I would have made mine wait on me. :)

What a great labor story! What a dumb doctor! What a patient woman!

Isn't it funny how we can remember the details of our labor, yet some of us choose to do it over again?
